A part of the house was built in 1646 by George Critchlow, anscestor to the current owner Marjorie, and in 1830 the house was rebuilt by another George Critchlow. The house has been out of the family on a number of occasions, however John Gilbert Critchlow (Marjorie's late father) bought it back into the family in 1963.
While living next door but one, he rented out the house
and farmed the land until he retired in 1982. Marjorie moved into the house
in 1970 taking over the farm after her fathers retirement. Having to stop
farming herself in 1996, refurbishment of the house began. In 2007, the decision
was made to open up the house as a B&B the following year.
